The footage was captured on June 10–11, 2016, at Leeuwarden Air Base, during the RNlAF Open Days 2016 airshow
The stunning video in this post shows two Koninklijke Luchtmacht (Royal Netherlands Air Force, RNlAF) F-35As going vertical right away after takeoff. These are the first two Dutch F-35A aircraft, AN-1 (F-001) and AN-2 (F-002).
Notably, the footage was captured during the 2016 RNlAF Open Days airshow, which took place at Leeuwarden Air Base between June 10 and 11.
The F-35A Lightning II made its premiere at this event, which was the first airshow in Europe. But the F-35’s stay in the Netherlands extended beyond the RNlAF Open Days in 2016.
Since arriving at Leeuwarden Air Base on May 23, 2016, the aircraft has completed environmental noise testing in the air and on the ground. They have also undertaken a scenic flight for invited journalists over the North Sea range. Hundreds of members of the local community, government representatives, and RNLAF workers have also had the chance to travel to Leeuwarden to see the jet up close, hear from program specialists about the program, and even “fly” the cockpit demonstration.
