This post’s stunning video shows a decommissioned B-52D Stratofortress strategic bomber landing at IWM Duxford before being placed on display at the American Air Museum

This post features stunning footage of a retired B-52D Stratofortress strategic bomber arriving at the Imperial War Museum (IWM) Duxford airfield before being placed on display at the American Air Museum. The video was captured on October 8, 1983.

It’s noteworthy that the landing demonstrated in the video was performed by a B-52 Stratofortress on its shortest runway.

The Boeing Airplane Company constructed Duxford’s BUFF in 1957, and the United States Air Force (USAF) and Strategic Air Command (SAC) flew it on more than 200 flights between 1957 and 1983. During its service, it flew 14,000 hours of flight time, including missions on 24-hour nuclear alerts from 1957 to 1966 and on sporadic missions in South East Asia during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1978. These missions included flights on Operation Arc Light close air support missions, on strategic operations against North Vietnam, Operation Linebacker (May to December 1972), and Operation Linebacker II (December 1972).

the USAF national insignia (1947 black pattern) on the fuselage, the Radio Call Number painted in red on the vertical tail fin, and the South East Asia Command (SEAC) disruptive pattern in SAC bomber tan, SAC bomber green, and SAC bomber dark green camouflage to upper surfaces. the B-52D is overall painted in black.
